National Urban League, 2/25/24
For one year, the Knoxville Area Urban League (Knoxville, TN) has been engaged in a partnership with an adult education program. This collaborative initiative, which began in February of 2023, supplies free classes and tests for adults looking to obtain a high school equivalency diploma. Dr. Charles Lomax, the President and CEO of the Urban League, emphasizes that education is a key tool for the community. “This, along with other programs we provide, is one of the ways we look at empowering our community,” he said. “Education is the silver bullet and we’re wanting to make sure we have a community of individuals that are equipped to go out into the workforce and to earn better wages and to be able to have what they need in order to thrive and be successful.”
