The Emmanuel Center is among more than a dozen camps, schools and others that partner with Literacy Mid-South, an organization that provides literacy resources to learners of all backgrounds and ages. “Over the summer when kids aren’t in school or engaged in high quality academic interventions, they can lose up to two years of schooling over the course of their education,” said Johnny Blount, the Director of Collaborative Action with Literacy Mid-South. “And so, that’s why we work specifically with organizations that have low to no-fee programs, so that families and kids that may not be able to afford to send their kids to those programs get the same access to that intervention that prevents loss happening over the summer.”
